WAVELETS

Wavelets are very strong tool in time-frequency analysis of signals and images (2D signals). Instead of classical Fourier frequency analysis, they are very adequate for processing very sharp and fast changeable signal, as they are compactly supported and oscillatory. Wavelet is generated by the scaling function, which is the solution of dilatation equation. An adequate choice of wavelet for representing the signal enables high compression, which is very desirable for storage and transport of data.
