In this note we present some properties of Istratescu's measure of noncompactness on metric linear spaces. As applications of these results we prove that Kuratowski's and Istratescu's measures of noncompactness of the unit ball in $\ell^p$ and $L^p(0<p<1)$ spaces equal to 2.
